Civil War Period Style Photos

Here are a some photos taken by Collodion Artist William Dunniway.  He and a few others in the world re-created the Ambrotype and Ferrotype photographic process in the field, taking pictures exactly as they were done in the camps of the Union and Confederate Armies of the American Civil War.  These photos were taken in the field, with a lenscap as the shutter and developed in a special tent, just as Matthew Brady and other period photographers did in the 1860s.

To see more of Bill’s work, including landscapes of Yosemite and elsewhere, I urge you to visit his website at http://www.collodion-artist.com/ for some breathtaking photos done in the Collodian fashion as well as a complete description as to how they were taken and developed.
